UNIONS REPRESENTING SEVERAL HUNDRED CITY EMPLOYEES CALL ON BONAHOOM TO APOLOGIZE FOR NAZI MESSAGE
October 13, 2011
FORT WAYNE, IN -- Today, local unions representing several hundred city employees joined together to call on city clerk candidate Zach Bonahoom to formally apologize for his message referring to city employees as nazis. When confronted about the post this week, Bonahoom refused to apologize for the offensive and derogatory message.
"Anyone who would refer to city employees as Nazis has no business working in city hall," said Lloyd Osborne of the International Operating Engineers local 399. "Bonahoom's actions show an incredible lack of judgment, as well as a complete disregard for the dedicated public professional who are working hard everyday to serve Fort Wayne residents. No excuses -- Zach should apologize now."
A screenshot of Bonahoom's tweet which reads "saw parking Nazi on the corner, so I quickly went and fed every meter on the block" is available here. The statement is especially inappropriate since, if elected, Bonahoom would be responsible for overseeing the same employees he referred to as Nazis.
Both the International Operating Engineers Local 399 and IBEW Local 723 called on Bonahoom to issue this apology.
