Rep. Phil Giaquinta Calls on Governor to Rescind Bonahoom Endorsement

REPRESENTATIVE PHIL GIAQUINTA CALLS ON GOVERNOR DANIELS TO RESCIND BONAHOOM ENDORSEMENT

FORT WAYNE, IN -- Today,  State Representative Phil GiaQuinta called on Governor Mitch Daniels to rescind his endorsement of Fort Wayne clerk candidate Zach Bonahoom in light of Bonahoom's offensive tweet referring to city employees as Nazis.

Statement from Representative GiaQuinta:

"Referring to our public servants as Nazis is grossly inappropriate and demonstrates an incredible lack of judgment. Anyone who would equate city employees with mass murderers clearly has no place holding city office. I have worked with Governor Daniels for several years now and while we disagree on many things, I doubt that we disagree over the serious breach of decency that occurred here. I would hope that Governor Daniels would not have endorsed this young man had he known of his serious lack of judgment.  He does now and should withdraw his support.”

A screenshot of Bonahoom's tweet, which reads "saw parking nazi at the corner, so I quickly went and fed every meter on the block" is available here. If elected as Clerk, Bonahoom would be responsible for overseeing the same employees he referred to as Nazis.

On September 26, 2011 the Journal Gazette reported that Governor Daniels had endorsed the Bonahoom for city clerk.
